Who Am I and Other Basics

Phew, I set up the domain, chose the blog template that will change every few weeks due to my indecisiveness and almost had a nervous breakdown. I turned off the computer, put on some music, took a few deep breaths and did it anyway. The thing about me is that I give up too easily. But another thing, the thing that keeps me going, is that I hate spending money, and when I do spend it, I make the most of it. And since I paid seventeen full Euros for my domain, there is no turning back, is there?

So I guess this is it. My first post, how exciting is that? Let's dive right in.  

WHO AM I?

A million dollar question and my second obstacle.

Who. Am. I?

On the blog, I suppose I am Lost Supposedly - it took me a few Google searches to make sure I spelt that word right - Funny Dragoness. Supposedly, because I think I am hilarious and my greatest source of entertainment, but not everyone agrees. Dragoness because I just love dragons. My favourite book is The Heritage by Paolini and I always felt sorry for the dragons in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I mean, look at them. They're so big and strong and - don't say "that's what she said" - they can breathe fire and ... I would sell my soul to be an elf and a dragon rider in books about Eragon.

Offline I am a student of social work from the capital of Slovenia, a small European country. So excuse me, grammar nazis (I can definitely say I am one when it comes to Slovenian), English is not my first language, so shut up about my mistakes. I use DeepL (this is not an advertisement, just a fact) to find possible imperfections, but I am sure they will still appear every so often.

You will get to know me better through my writing.

WHY DID I DECIDE TO START A BLOG?

My dad always told me that I could never shut up. I mean, when I get comfortable with someone, I really can't stop jabbering. Yes, I write a diary, but that does not really help because I need to know that people are listening - or reading - me and my work. So here it is. A whole bunch of my thoughts, which I will try to tie up into some sort of articles or whatever you want to call them. Thank me later.

WHAT IS MY BLOG ABOUT?

Everything and nothing all at once. It will be a bit of a travel blog, a bit of me ranting about common things like public transport, you might find some book reviews or music recommendations here and of course I will be complaining about not wanting to go for a run or work out or flex after running with a good pace. Oh, and sometimes, when I am feeling down - which might happen a lot - I will vent and cry and translate my old diaries and whine and all that.

ABOUT LANGUAGES

Sometimes I might write something in Slovenian, just because I feel way more comfortable in my mother tongue, the words in Slovenian slip from my fingers and roll out of my mouth with amazing ease. You may or may not get a translation for that. Cry about it. Or translate it yourself, we live in twenty-twenty-four (says the blogger, as if blogging were not already dead).

I suppose this is all you need to know. Thank you for reading, do not feel too ofended if I am being mean, this is just my love and hate language and everything inbetween. Enjoy!

Nicolas No Nickname

Zariah is known as Zari, Baboucarr Babu, Abubacarr Abu, Aisha is called Aisha Banana, Musa... well, Musa doesn't really have a nickname, but his name is short for Musafa. Nicolas, on the other hand, does not have a nickname. Everyone just calls him Niiiiiiicolaaas. That's a bit ironic, isn't it? It's called a nick name after all. Nicolas is a six-month-old baby that I had the pleasure of spending some time with while volunteering in The Gambia this summer. He's one of the babies being raised by carers in a kind of social work centre that's divided into several sections: an orphanage (we don't have orphanages in Slovenia, so I hope that's still a correct term) for babies and one for older children, a kind of residential home for elderly people who have no one to look after them, and an asylum home.
